What is an amphibian? Scientists classify or group animals in a number of ways. One way in which they do this is by looking at the animal’s features. Amphibians such as salamanders, frogs, and axolotls have many features that make them unique from other animals. One of the most interesting characteristics of amphibians is that they are able to live both on land and in water. Amphibians, like reptiles, are cold-blooded. This means that they rely on the environment to keep their blood a certain temperature. However, unlike reptiles which have scales, amphibians have moist skin. Importantly, amphibians are vertebrates. This means they have a spine.
