Conditional Coding micro-lesson

Do you struggle with balancing your kids’ screen time with their education? Say hello to 1Question, the app that solves this problem with a fun twist! Our app lets your child earn screen time minutes in their favourite apps by watching educational videos and correctly answering quiz questions. And the best part? You get to decide which apps to lock behind learning using 1Question.

Learning time

Kids learn by watching short, engaging video lessons.

When we answer questions in a game, we need to know if the answer is correct or incorrect. Conditional coding tells the program what to do when a correct answer is given, or an incorrect answer is given. In Scratch, we can use the If-then-else command to create conditional coding. This tells the game what to do when it is given a correct or an incorrect answer. The If-then-else command can be found in the Control section. If the input is equal to the correct answer, then we want the output to do one thing. Else, meaning if anything else is entered, then we want the output to do something else. To do this, we go to the Operators tab and choose the Something Equals Something block and put it after if. If, our answer you’re going to send in, and drag across answer. If answer equals, and then we need to enter the correct answer, what month comes after September? We type in October. If the answer equals October, then what do we want to happen? We could have the sprite moving forward 20 steps. Else, so if anything else is entered, we could have this spite moving back 20 steps, so minus 20.
