Round Numbers to the nearest 100 micro-lesson

Do you struggle with balancing your kids’ screen time with their education? Say hello to 1Question, the app that solves this problem with a fun twist! Our app lets your child earn screen time minutes in their favourite apps by watching educational videos and correctly answering quiz questions. And the best part? You get to decide which apps to lock behind learning using 1Question.

Learning time

Kids learn by watching short, engaging video lessons.

In this lesson, we will round large numbers to the nearest hundred. So, when rounding to the nearest hundred, we're trying to find what hundred the number is nearest to. First, we need to identify the hundreds column. It can be useful to circle this. A hundred is any number that has nothing in the tens or units’ columns so we put zeros in these columns, the ones to the right of the hundred’s column. We then need to look in the ten’s column. If there's a four or less, then the digit stays the same, the one that's in the hundred’s column. If there's a five or more, the digit in the hundred’s column goes up by one. Drawing this on a number line can help us. Let's try with 62,647. As in this case, there's a four in the ten’s column. The hundred, which is a six at this point stays the same. And remember, we put zeros in the tens and one’s columns.
